Unfortunately, Pakistan is a country in which women face gender violence and sex-related crimes. Women are facing challenges day-to-day because of pressures from religion and values of a patriarchal society, week legislation as well as inadequate education on such issues. In instances where such crimes were documented, 68% of Pakistani girls are subject to such heinous crime.
Omer Imran Malik created ‘Tahafuz’ as a means for Pakistani women to know their rights and understand their importance in society. With a constant sense of danger and a mindset that they can become victim to predatory attacks, the threat of sexual harassment or violence is extremely prevalent.
Tahafuz aims to provide women with self-defense education and seminars that provide knowledge about such issues. It trains women to defend against the ongoing injustices and sex related crimes in the country. Workshops and seminars are held in different locations so that the option to learn is accessible for the entire country.
Omer saw the danger women around him were facing and wanted to eliminate it through equipping women with ways to combat it. Thus, creating a social enterprise aimed at eliminating sexual violence in Pakistan and letting women know that they CAN be in charge of their own safety.
