PopinJay’s CEO, Saba Gul, grew up in Pakistan wanting to make a change. Although she was surrounded by immense beauty and talent in the country, the lack of employment and marginalization of women was more than prevalent. Similarly, in her travels to other underprivileged and third world countries, she was inspired to start PopinJay, and convert oppression into opportunity.

After completing her education in the United States, Saba knew her journey into social good had to be established in her roots. Hence, moving back to Pakistan. By 2013, the world was introduced to her ethical fashion label, PopinJay.

PopinJay sources its materials locally to create beautiful, high-end handbags. They are skillfully crafted by artisan women who are hired from Hafizabad, Pakistan. They then receive training, great pay and a way into an ever growing business line. These handmade products are crafted with love of the work, and pave way for underprivileged women from Pakistan (and Vietnam) to enter into employment and education. The high-end products are beautifully embroidered using fine silk materials, require a great deal of time and provides ideal work for these talented ladies. These women are invested in their products, making them of great quality and undeniable beauty.

Now highly-acclaimed in the fashion world, PopinJay has been recognized by international publications and press such as Vogue, CNN, TheGuardian, and others. Brought to you by Pakistan’s finest workmanship, the bags are truly taking the fashion world by storm.

It all started with Saba Gul paying attention to the country around her; wanting to give women a purpose in life and a platform to appreciate their talents. Her inspiring, innovate spark and venture into social entrepreneurship gave Pakistani local women hope and success.
