According to Shabir his ‘great challenge in life has been his caste – that he was born a Deendar Changar – Pakistan’s version of the ‘untouchables’”
Despite having to face poverty and being born in a segment of the society which does not have access to resources like proper shelter, food or education. Sabir has been able to keep his hopes alive – a wonderful thing to have in life to help us keep going.
Shabir wants to change the country one day.
In his wake to help alleviate hopelessness from the country, Shabir found Slumabad – an organization that works for gypsy kids in the urban slums of Lahore. They establish schools to provide these kids with exposure to what lies out there and also helps resolve local problems such as sanitary in an effort to create an ecosystem that does not hinder growth of these children. Shabir has had a difficult childhood, and he wants that no kid in the country has to feel the same way, as it is every kid’s right to education, health and care. Slumabad is the ray of light that can help brighten up the future of numerous kids, and we applaud Shabir for giving back to society in such a great way.
